Now what?
Obviously I'm pleased that the voting population decided to vote to leave the EU.
Now it falls to all of us to ensure that we make it work. We owe it to the other 48% of the electorate to address their concerns.
The politicians need to outline our next steps, and they need to strike a balance between calming fears, settling markets and working towards the transition.
Leave voters need to stay engaged, and consider themselves accountable for the momentous change we've instigated. We need to fight for as many of the opportunities offered by leaving the EU to become reality. We will need to hold our own government more accountable now. We need to listen to what the other side says as the transition unfolds.
And everyone owes it to themselves and each other to collaborate as best we can for as smooth a transition as possible, as positive an end position with respect to the EU, and most importantly do much better at getting the most out of our government.
We've won our democracy; now we need to make it work.
